20 Tips To Help You Live A Better Life

Creating a better life for yourself begins with your self-development and self-improvement.

When you learn to better yourself, it doesn’t just affect you personally. It can affect your family and community.

The more we grow as individuals, the better our capabilities become at achieving a life of abundance.

I think it’s important for each of us to carry the desire to never stop reaching for more.

If you are looking for ways to better yourself, I have 20 ideas to help you 😊

Save this pin as a reminder

1. Don’t Compare Your Life To Others

It’s impossible not to notice what the rest of the world is doing around us. I get it. We are constantly shown beautiful people in magazines, glamorous airbrushed photos on social media, and are inundated with the highlight reel. But what we have to remember is that we don’t always see the hundreds of other photos and moments in people’s lives when life is not picture-perfect. Don’t place unnecessary pressure on yourself by comparing your life to people’s filtered photos.

2. Learn To Say No

Some of us aim to be people pleasers. We want to say yes to everything in hopes of avoiding hurt feelings. However, there are moments when if we say yes to someone else, it also means we are saying no to ourselves. We can’t do it all.

When you feel low on energy, give yourself permission to pause. You don’t always have to be available. Remember, you can’t pour from an empty cup. Take time to replenish yourself before feeling pressured to show up for others.

3. Remember The Gift Of Choice

Every day we have the gift of choice. Our minds may manipulate us into thinking that we are out of options in certain circumstances. Yet, I want to remind you this is the work of fear trying to scare you. No matter the situation you are placed in, there is always at least one decision you can make to help yourself. When things become difficult, look for that one choice you can make to fix your situation.

4. Know You Are Worthy

When we lose sight of our self-worth, it can mean that we are willing to tolerate things that are too small for us. Never settle for a life that is beneath you. You are meant for big things. When you realize your self-worth, this opens up the gate of opportunity to believe in yourself, love yourself, and accept yourself.

5. Start A Journal

Sometimes, nothing can be more soothing than a blank piece of paper. Think of it as a landing strip to get rid of all the toxic garbage floating in your mind. As the wise words of Jim Rohn tell us, “If you’re serious about becoming a wealthy, powerful, sophisticated, healthy, influential, cultured, and unique individual, keep a journal.”

Below are some inexpensive options on Amazon, all less than $15.

6. Be Mindful How You Talk To Yourself

Many times, without realizing it, we set limitations upon ourselves. These may result from believing we are not capable and are not worthy. The words you tell yourself matter. When you have a thought, ask yourself:

Are the words valid?

Are they helping my situation?

Would I say them to a friend?

Train your brain to recognize unuseful statements.

7. Slow Down And Enjoy The Little Things

Set time aside each day to reflect on all the good you have in life. When you find yourself off course or discouraged from a bad day, take time to reflect. You may even wish to make a gratitude list or start a gratitude journal to form the habit of focusing your attention on the practice of appreciating even the little things in life.

I can promise you it changes everything.

Sit quietly for a few minutes and have a conversation with yourself. Although it may seem silly, it can put things into perspective. There is so much to be thankful for, don’t miss out on being grateful because you are too consumed with stress and anxiety.

8. Take Ownership Of Your Life

As long as we are breathing, we have to deal with circumstances out of our control.

No one wants to deal with cavities, health ailments, debt, bodyweight issues, injury, divorce, or loss. None of that stuff is enjoyable, but here is the thing. None of those things are miraculously going to get better or just disappear. It is up to us to manage the hand we are dealt with as best we can. Do not let yourself become a victim of what has happened to you. You are stronger than you realize.

9. Read Books That Inspire You

Books can often help us to tap into new thought processes. Mental stimulation causes the neurons in our minds to fire up and think differently. The words we consume through reading can alter the way we live our lives. When you need inspiration, read books that inspire you.

Here are a few recommended reads when you need some inspiration:

10. Turn Your Past Trauma Into Triumph

For each of us that has experienced trauma, it’s essential to use this time to love and support ourselves. It is a fragile time. But what I want to tell you, my friend is this. Do not remain breakable too long. You are capable of courage, strength, and more resiliency than you know. Keep your mind solidified in the lesson you take away from the trauma and use it to better your life.

11. Break Free From Self-doubt

Remember, your brain believes what you tell it. If you tell your mind that you aren’t capable, that you aren’t strong enough, that you can’t do it, then that’s ideally what your brain will believe. If you want things to change in your life, you first must learn to believe in yourself. When you want to accomplish something, remind yourself you are worthy and are capable of big things.

13. Stop Putting Your Dreams On Hold

When we’re young, all sorts of possibilities lie ahead of who we can be. Sadly, somewhere along the way, though, we form this belief that many of our dreams are no longer possible. Perhaps it’s because we start to feel they are silly, we’re too old, or it’s too late.

We may have accidentally gotten in the way of our dreaming. Don’t let those reasons hold you back. Your dreams are worth seeing through, no matter how old you are. Today is the perfect day to make it happen.

14. Plan For Your Life With Purposeful Intention

Our lives are meant for big things—set intentions for each day that help you build a life you love. Crave a life that excites you beyond your wildest dreams. What is it that you want out of your life? Find what brings you the most joy and build your life around those things.

15. Forgive Others Who Have Hurt You

Think for a moment how good it would feel to pardon everyone for anything that has ever happened to you. Wouldn’t it be so freeing to have the weight lifted off your shoulders? Think of all the energy and time you would gain back if you chose to move on. Remain in that state of mind for a few moments and keep your focus on how good it would feel to have your life back. When you want to stay mad, angry, or replay something that has happened in the past, don’t. Practice shifting your focus back to the feelings of forgiveness.

16. Do A Better Job At Taking Care Of Yourself

Start taking care of yourself more seriously. Poor health doesn’t just affect your career; it can also affect your wallet. May this article be the sign you’ve been looking for to put your wellness needs first. If there is an appointment you have been putting off, now is the time to schedule it. Without our health, we won’t have the energy to live a life we love the most.

17. Control What You Can And Disregard The Rest

Every day we are put in situations that we have no control over. However, we still have control over a few things in every situation. We have control over our actions and our attitude. Breathe. When you don’t know what to do, there is no need to respond right away. Always keep your focus on what you can control and learn to let go of the things out of your control.

18. Be Present In The Present

Spend time living in the present moment with yourself and the people around you. Use this time to appreciate all the beautiful things happening in your life. We spend so much time worrying about the past and feeling anxious about the future that we can miss the most important moment—the present.

19. Choose Better Habits

Remember, life is a series of choices that stem from our habits. You can’t expect to see positive changes in your life if you continue making the same choices. Choose healthy habits that support the best version of yourself. Here are a few healthy habit suggestions to get you started.

20. Celebrate Your Life

You don’t need a big reason to celebrate in life. Sometimes, it’s enough knowing that you got out of bed and made it to work. We often wait for the holidays or anniversaries to eat good food and surround ourselves with wonderful company, but why wait?

Go ahead—take a vacation or throw a dinner party just because you can. There is much to celebrate daily, don’t forget to praise yourself for all your achievements, big and small.
